Anu Höysniemi spent more than 15 years in management consulting and the corporate world as VP of Strategy and Analytics before reaching an inflection point. She wanted to focus on building something that mattered to her. When she noticed a huge gap growing in AI Literacy, one that most kids weren’t being equipped to close, she built AI Adventure, an AI learning platform helping kids learn AI literacy safely and responsibly while building future-ready skills.
Anu’s journey as an entrepreneur is fueled by a philosophy she carried with her from the corporate world: sales and distribution decide what wins in the market. Rather than spending a lot of time refining a product before anyone sees it, she tests what sells and builds second. Put an idea in front of the market, see how it moves, and let the market validate the demand and help to decide which idea to pursue.
Testing this philosophy, Anu once launched two offerings simultaneously. After a month, one offering sold once, and the other sold 65 times. This told Anu everything she needed to know about where to focus her energy.
This practice continues to inform her decisions today and helps her run AI Adventure.
When joining the startup world, Anu came in without much of a foothold in Milwaukee’s local startup scene. Most of her career had been built elsewhere, and the startup world was new territory. FOR-M gave her a way to plug in, find connections, and gain experience.
“Jumping from corporate to startup was lonely. FOR-M gave me a room full of people who get it. I found connections, sparring partners for my ideas, and critical feedback I couldn’t get anywhere else. That changes how fast you learn and how you feel.”
Her final advice to others who are interested in beginning their startup journey is to simply start. Results won’t be instant, and you won’t feel perfectly ready, but showing up helps build confidence.
“No one succeeds alone. The founders who lift each other up are the ones who last. So show up for each other. That’s how we all make it in Milwaukee.”
